Population
Nepal has a population of more than 22 million people
of different races and ethnic groups. These live in various areas and
have their own culture, language and diverse dialects. The Gurung and
Magar live mainly in the West. The Rais, Limbus and Sunwars are settled
on the mountain slopes and in the valleys of the middle mountains in the
East. The Sherpas live in the alpine zones. The Newars constitute an important
section of the population in the Katmandu valley. In Terai one finds the
Tharus, Yadavas, Satar, Rajvanshis and Dhimals. The Brahmans, Chhetris
and Thakuris are scattered across the whole country.
